A hot version - up-to 300bhp – of the new Range Rover Evoque is being assessed for production.

The engine is a high-pressure turbo version of the Evoque's Ford-derived 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit.

Evoque program director David Mitchell has been driving the engine in an Evoque prototype, although production has yet to get the green light.

“The chassis can take it,” says Mitchell.

One dilemma for Land Rover, however, is how to badge a higher performance version of the Range Rover Evoque.

Jaguar Land Rover has no performance sub-brand for its Range Rover models and current cars with enhanced performance are badged 'supercharged'.

“We'll have to look at badges or a sub-brand,” say Mitchell.

The most powerful production Evoque currently on sale is the 2.0-litre Si4 Dynamic, which produces 237bhp. The planned hot version will increase that figure by up to 63bhp.
