Honda Aircraft Co. president Michimasa Fujino said at an aviation industry meeting yesterday that his company, a division of Japan’s Honda Motor Co. Ltd., will be forced to yet again delay the launch of the HondaJet light commercial jet airplane, Bloomberg reported. The HondaJet’s engine, an in-house design, reportedly ingested ice during a ground test and a redesign to address the situation will set back the HondaJet’s launch by a year to mid-2013.

The high-profile HondaJet program has been beset by delays since it was announced and the company had initially planned to have deliveries of the small jet begin in 2010. Fujino told the National Business Aviation Association convention in Las Vegas that the HF120 engine now cannot be certified until the second half of next year and only then can tests of the entire plane commence. Honda started the jet-making unit in 2006 and to date has about 100 pre-orders for the HondaJet.
