Frankfurt 2011: new Gallardo Stradale

This, assembled congeries of the Internet, is the most extreme Lamborghini Gallardo ever built: it is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale. And it has a ruddy long name.

Greet it with caution, however. This new Lamborghini takes inspiration from its racing brethren that compete in the Blancpain Super Trofeo championship; a one-make series composed entirely of Gallardos.

As such, it gets the same manually adjustable rear spoiler taken directly from the racing version, designed to allow "dynamic stability during tight, high-speed driving", and a quick-release engine cover. Both are built using carbon fibre - Lamborghini's favourite material - and overall weight drops to 1,340kg, equalling the Superleggera and some 70kg lighter than a ‘standard' LP560-4.

The engine remains untouched - a 562bhp 5.2-litre V10 - that sends those horses and 398 torques via a robotised e-gear six-speed transmission to all four-wheels, complete with a ‘Thrust Mode' to allow full bore, 5,000rpm standing starts "with minimal tyre slippage". There will be some, probably.

Performance figures are thus: 0-62mph takes 3.4 seconds, 0-124mph takes 13.8 seconds and top speed is just shy of 200mph, pretty much identical to the Super-El.

You can option carbon fibre ceramic brake discs, a tubular interior roll cage, four-point safety belts and fire extinguisher. Or a sat nav and Bluetooth prep, should you wish to challenge the gruelling ‘Let's Get To The Restaurant" circuit.

The Stradale also features a brand new paint finish dubbed ‘Rosso Mars' said to celebrate Lamborghini's ‘Italianness' (grey and white is available too), lightweight forged wheels that save 13kg and an interior colour scheme matching the outsides.

Alcantara is liberally applied to the dash, central seat cushion and backrest, while carbon fibre finds itself in the door panels, centre console cover and monocoque racing seats. If your hunger for CF still isn't sated, Lamborghini will add a handbrake frame, lower steering wheel rim and door handles made out of the stuff.

All you really require to complete the road racer is to purchase a helmet and develop a fear of clouds...
